Anyone listen to Flobots? They're a pretty progressive band. If you've been listening to the radio in Richmond at all, you would have heard they're most conservative hit Handlebars. In my opinion, Flobots is probably one of the most progressive bands I have ever heard. They're hybrid hip-hop/ jazz really carries their music to the next level. Accompanying two emcees are a jazz trumpet player, and a violinist as well as separate rhythm section to tie it all together. While the composition of their band is different, so are their lyrics and their ideas.
Stand Up is a gorgeous song. The violin/hip-hop hybrid delivers their liberal, yet unignoringly relevant message to the world today. I am not going to analyze the song, because I don't believe in doing such things, but I really do encourage you to listen to them. Whether your a liberal Democrat, or a conservative repulbican their ideas are worth listening to. I believe in listening to people and understanding them, no matter what their beliefs are and you should at least consider it. You can also check out their community action plan website

Wow. I knew 16-year-olds' knowledge of music was sorely lacking, but to call Flobots "one of the most progressive bands I've ever heard" is completely absurd. Not that I don't enjoy them, but when I first heard them I thought of them as 'cute' and 'silly.' Their message isn't even that liberal. Feed the hungry, cure the sick, don't be a racist. Their music is not even that original. People having been fusing jazz with everything from country to metal to hip-hop for decades now. Perhaps it would behoove you to seek out actual "Progressive" music. It is a real genre. Go there if you're looking for a fresh sound. As for real politically charged lyrics that people sang BEFORE it was popular to do so, you might try Woody Guthrie or Bob Dylan. WAR even. What kids nowadays need to realize is that being much more original or edgy than anything else on the radio hardly makes you so in the scope of music as a whole.
Lastly: "I am not going to analyze the song, because I don't believe in doing such things" Then what the fuck are you doing talking about it or having an opinion about it. Do you know what the word analyze means? Do you realize that by having an opnion about the song you have in fact analyzed it? I'm sorry. It must be my fault for assuming that people know what they're talking about before forming an opinion.
Sorry for my RAGE. I actually enjoy Flobots a lot and think they're one of the best things to happen to rock radio in a while. They are clearly well educated on music (even gave a nod to Alt-country Linda Rondstat, lol). My rage was directed at OP and his ignorance of pretty much everything about music, specifically what makes the flobots enjoyable.
